Inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers for nuclear

Industry employers are coming together to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers for the nuclear sector. Launched at The Big Bang Fair, the project is a collaboration between the Nuclear Skills Strategy Group (NSSG) and EngineeringUK, who will work with the major nuclear employers, their suppliers, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) to help more employers engage more effectively with young people.

The aim is to help to build the future talent pipeline for the nuclear industry. Our team of regional Employer Support Managers (ESMs) will support the development and delivery of well-coordinated nuclear STEM outreach strategies and plans led by employers and delivered to young people in schools and colleges.

Importantly, the project recognises and builds on the good work that many employers in the nuclear industry are already engaging with in the area of STEM outreach.  NSSG members have pledged to support the initiative – attracting young people into the nuclear sector is a key component of its delivery plan to attract young people into the nuclear sector.

David Vineall, HR Director, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and NSSG member said: “This programme will utilise a vast range of existing best practice, including established research to analyse, strengthen and support the development and delivery of well-coordinated STEM outreach strategies and plans led by employers and delivered to young people in schools and colleges.”

The NSSG is seeking industrial players to be part of the programme - including Site Licence Companies, vendors and tier 1 suppliers and the lower tier supply chain. Interested parties should contact their local ESM:
