EngineeringUK responds to Spending Review

Nov 25, 2020

‘EngineeringUK welcomes the confirmation in the Spending Review of large-scale infrastructure investment starting next year and the ongoing commitment around Net Zero and a green economy.’

‘Despite rising unemployment, however, business leaders, including engineering employers, still report a growing skills gap, so investing in our education and skills system is absolutely vital.’

‘We therefore welcome the commitment and confirmation to increase school funding and invest in further education. However, EngineeringUK would have liked to see the government commit to establish a STEM education strategy stretching over several years with large scale funding behind it.'

‘We believe that the government needs to invest strategically in education and skills to ensure that the UK will have the engineers to support its ambitions around Net Zero and the UK becoming a science super power post-Brexit and post-pandemic.'
