Request for survey participation

Feb 22, 2019

EngineeringUK and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) have commissioned The University of Manchester to conduct a research project which examines the factors influencing young people’s educational decisions in England. We are particularly interested in improving our understanding of why some students choose to pursue the various educational pathways that can lead to a career in engineering, while others do not. We would like to invite all young people (whether or not they have previously expressed an interest in engineering) aged 15-17 to take part in our survey, which takes around 30 minutes to complete.

Participating schools and colleges will benefit from a presentation of its data in tables and charts. This includes analysis of questions regarding why students choose their post-16 route, who helps/advises them in making those decisions, and their plans for after school/college. Please let us know whether you are taking part by emailing the team at Manchester (see information below).

If you are a teacher in England please circulate the link below among your students (if they are over 16 years old) or contact us for more information for those under 16 – we really value their views, and would very much appreciate their participation in this important project!

If your students have already completed their GCSEs, please direct them to: https://apps.mhs.manchester.ac.uk/surveys//TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=94KHnl4MH

If you have any queries, please contact Mollie Bourne, Research and Impact Manager, at [email protected], or Jack Quinn at [email protected]  (or on 0161 275 3385).  Alternative provisions (e.g. hard copies) are also possible.

Thank you!
