Evaluating outreach

Growing and learning

Evaluation is a key part of delivering outreach. Not only does it allow you to learn and adapt your activities, but it also lets you celebrate successes. Planning and delivering successful outreach requires learning from your audiences, determining reach and key findings, and making recommendations for the future.

Key learnings

Evaluation of our progammes allows us to understand our impact on young people. Key learnings from our reports include findings on young people’s knowledge of engineering careers and interest in pursuing a future career in engineering.

Young people who attended a careers event with an employer in the past 12 months were twice as likely to know what engineers and scientists do at work, compared to those who didn’t. They were also almost 3 times as likely to be interested in an engineering career.

School students who attended one or more STEM careers activity are also 3.5 times more likely to know what people working in engineering do, and 3.4 times more likely to consider a career in engineering.
