About the Big Bang
The Big Bang inspires and encourages all young people to discover exciting possibilities in STEM. The Big Bang is our flagship programme, on a mission to showcase surprising possibilities and connect the future workforce to inspiring role models in STEM.
The Big Bang Fair
The Big Bang Fair is the UK's biggest annual STEM event for young people. The latest Fair took place in June 2024 at the NEC in Birmingham and was attended by more than 20,000 students. We’ll be back at the NEC in June 2025.
Every year, thousands of young people attend The Big Bang Fair to take part in hands-on activities, careers panels and see incredible live shows. Students get the opportunity to hear first-hand from exciting scientists and engineers and connect with inspiring career role models.
The Fair is possible thanks to our amazing supporters and volunteers who help bring STEM careers to life for our young visitors, their teachers and parents.
The Big Bang Competition
The Big Bang Competition rewards young people’s science, engineering and technology project work and crowns the UK Young Engineer, UK Young Scientist of the Year and UK Young Technologist of the Year, supported by Siemens.
From a portable pollution monitor and revolutionising solar power, to investigating medical chemistry, the science, engineering and technology projects from today’s young talent are incredible.
Previous winners have gone on to represent the UK in international competitions, to study STEM at the highest levels, to work in some of our biggest engineering companies and to set up their own businesses.
Big Bang at School
Big Bang at School supports teachers to bring the Big Bang magic to their doorstep and host an inspiring STEM day filled with exciting activities.
The Big Bang at School Blueprint provides teachers with everything they need to inspire and engage their students. We also offer bursaries to financially support our priority schools to deliver an unforgettable event.

Big Bang at Parliament
Big Bang at Parliament brings the Big Bang to the Houses of Parliament. Big Bang Competition entrants showcase their projects to MPs, members of the House of Lords, and STEM professionals. It’s a brilliant opportunity to highlight the creativity and innovation of young people from across the UK.
How to support the Big Bang
We aim to showcase the breadth of STEM across our Big Bang programmes, and welcome support from new organisations. You could bring an activity to The Fair, support Big Bang at School or offer a prize as part of The Competition. Get in touch to discuss what’s right for you.
Support our work
We don’t charge schools for any of the programmes, resources or services we offer. Financial support helps us develop and deliver programmes to support more schools and reach more young people.
