Tomorrow’s Engineers Week returned for a triumphant 11th year in November 2023, engaging over 50,000 young people all over the UK with inspiring careers information and real-life career stories from around the engineering and technology sector.

This annual celebration, which takes place at the beginning of November brings together the engineering community to make the world of engineering and technology careers come alive for students and encouraging them to think about future routes into employment they might not have otherwise considered.

Along with daily themes including how to turn a passion into a career, and how a local career can have global impact, Tomorrow’s Engineers Week supplied lesson plans, resources.  Working with Amazon UK, AtkinsRéalis, Babcock International, JBA Bentley, Rockwell Automation, the Royal Aeronautical Society, RWE, SEA-KIT International, TYPSA, and the Warwick Manufacturing Group, the week also provided a panel of experts to respond to students’ eager questions such as "What qualifications did you need to follow your dream?" and "Is it possible to make ice cream that doesn't melt?"

One of main highlights of the week to engage the over 50,000 young people taking part in the week, was a live broadcast panel hosted by Sahar Roxanne El-Hady (a former Big Bang Competition UK Young Scientist of the Year) featuring engineers from a wide range of backgrounds and industries, from live music performances, civil engineering, space engineering to renewable energy. The 45-minute broadcast is still available for students and teachers to watch on-demand.

At the end of the inspiring week one secondary school science teacher from England said “We need to ensure that students are aware of more (if not all) of the careers available to them and that STEM skills can be put into practical use in the real world. These kinds of resource are vital for this reason.”

Another secondary school teacher commented “the students found it fascinating and eye opening.”

EngineeringUK Head of Careers, Eleanor Eyre said: "We were inspired by the questions young people asked us about future opportunities in engineering and technology and how best they could prepare - particularly for careers related to achieving net zero. A theme that emerged was a desire amongst young people to understand more about how they could become engineers and technicians and to find a pathway that would suit them, playing to their strengths and learning preferences - whether that be an apprenticeship, T Level, A Levels, Highers, IB, Degree Apprenticeship, another qualification, or a combination of these."

The broadcast and teacher resources are still available to be watched and downloaded from the Tomorrow’s Engineers Week website.

Huge thanks to everyone across the community who helped us during the week inspiring young people. Tomorrow’s Engineers Week couldn’t happen without you taking part. We’ll see you again next year.
