Apprentices

Apprentices in engineering are among the most likely to recommend their route for launching a career in the sector, reveals the largest-ever research into apprenticeships experience.

The survey provides yet more evidence that engineering is an exciting and satisfying career option for young people. It also reinforces that the apprenticeship route into engineering is well-recommended.

The survey is an analysis of post-apprenticeship data captured over five years from more than 15,000 apprentices across nine industry sectors. Based on an index where 100 represents the highest proportion of people in any of the research findings, it shows apprentices in engineering scored 91 for considering their job the start of a career.

Engineering offers apprentices the greatest opportunities across all the sectors for learning (100 in the index) and also the second-least amount of admin work, with a score of eight in the index versus an all-sector average of 34 – suggesting a higher level of more valuable work activities in the apprenticeship programmes.

The data* was captured by specialist review website RateMyApprenticeship.co.uk and analysed by Crescendo Consulting.
