The Tomorrow’s Engineers website has been developed by EngineeringUK and brings together free advice and guidance, curated from across the engineering community, to support practitioners in providing young people with engineering careers inspiration.
‘Talking about engineering careers with young people’ is a new webinar featuring expert advice on how to deliver inspiring and effective sessions about careers in engineering. This webinar has been developed and launched by Tomorrow’s Engineers and it is a new way to showcase the breadth of engineering careers on offer for young people.
A fresh new resource
From aerospace developments and rail construction to cyber security and beauty discoveries, this webinar emphasises that engineering is a career for anyone.
While the webinar encourages the person leading the activity to be authentic and build outreach activities using their personal experience, it also reminds them that there isn’t just one route into becoming an engineer. Doing an apprenticeship is one of the many routes into engineering. It prompts them to be inclusive in their approach by encouraging everyone from different backgrounds to participate and involving students who might have additional needs.
Presenting the webinar is Eleanor Eyre, Head of Careers at EngineeringUK and qualified careers advisor, shares her expert knowledge on how to engage with young people and explain engineering careers in an exciting way. Joining her is Fayon Dixon, a broadcaster and motivational speaker with over 15 years’ experience inspiring students at school and university. Fayon has been bringing STEM careers to life for young people for many years, including hosting panels and careers activities during The Big Bang Fair and Big Bang Digital, presenting Big Assemblies broadcast to schools across the UK and most recently, the first ever Schools COP held as part of Tomorrow's Engineers Week.
Other contributors to the webinar include Liz Lister at Graphic Science and Becca Thurston at Wessex Water.
‘Talking about engineering careers with young people’ is for anyone wanting to inspire and inform young people about a career in engineering, such as STEM ambassadors, volunteers and code signatories. This resource will help to deliver inspiring engineering activities that will make a difference.
Get involved in the live Q&A
Alongside the webinar, there will be a live Q&A session open for all to join. Join us Wednesday 2 March 2022, 2 to 3pm, on Microsoft Teams for a chance to get your questions answered by Eleanor in real time.
